Harmonic cadence
A harmonic cadence is a kind of statement made through harmonic movement that occurs at the end of a phrase.
Kinds of cadences:
- Perfect Authentic (PAC):
V - IorV7 - I- Both chords are in root position
- Imperfect Authentic (IAC):
V - IorV7 - I- One or both chords are NOT in root position
- Deceptive Cadence:
V - VImorV7 - VIm- Called “deceptive” because V or V7 makes it seem as if we’re going to

- Half-Cadence:
- Phrase ends on
V - Called “half” because it’s half of an authentic cadence
- Phrase ends on
- Plagal:
IV - I- Called plagal because of its similarity to the “amen” sound
