Melody of Super Mario Bros A section
If this melody consisted solely of the first bar, or even the first two bars, and repeated over and over, it would be miserable. The interest comes in having two separate ideas: m1-m2 and m3-m4. These two ideas are quite different:
- idea #1 starts by descending while #2 ascends
- #2 makes use of quarter note triplets, #1 does not
- #2 emphasizes beat 3 (in m3), #1 does not emphasize beat 3 at all
- #1 uses a chromatic passing tone, #2 does not
