Liquidation
Liquidation in music refers to the act of taking some characteristic melodic content and stripping away parts of it until it is no longer characteristic but conventional.[1] As such, this technique is utilized as part of the cadential function in a sentence theme.[2]
In a sentence’s continuation function, this may occur naturally through the usage of fragmentation.[3]
