Noise floor

In audio engineering, noise is any undesired audio in a signal – humming, buzzing, hissing. Every part of an analog signal chain is going to introduce some amount of noise.

The noise floor is the sum of all noise in the signal chain.

The noise floor may increase if the gain is increased, or if boosts from EQ are applied, or if compression is applied.
