Waves

This is going to consist of me refreshing my high school math knowledge.

  • The crest of the wave is the peak
  • The trough of the wave is the bottom
  • The height of the wave is the distance between the crest and the trough
  • Amplitude () is half of the height of the wave.
    • In sound waves, this value represents the pitch (frequency)
  • Wavelength () is the distance from one crest to the subsequent crest (or trough to trough)
  • Period () is the time it takes for a wave to travel through a single wavelength
    • This doesn’t really matter in audio though?
  • Frequency (), measured in Hertz (Hz) is the number of times a wave passes through a fixed point in a second
    • This gives the pitch
